Beyond the distinction of you and me, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

— Rumi (via emurlee)

it is necessary to write, if the days are not to slip emptily by.  how else,
indeed, to clap the net over the butterfly of the moment? for the moment
passes, it is forgotten; the mood is gone; life itself is gone.  that is where
the writer scores over his fellows: he catches the changes of his mind on
the hop.  growth is exciting; growth is dynamic and alarming.  growth
of the soul, growth of the mind.

25 Varias Cosas *** 25 Various Things

25 Random Things - Welcome to this colossal waste of time. If you don’t do it, don’t worry - I don’t blame you.

Rules:
Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.

************************************************************************************
25 Cosas Variosas - Bienvenidos a una perdida de tiempo colosal. Si no lo hagas, no te procupes. No voy a darte culpa.

Reglas:

*************************************************************************************

1. I stress clean. A lot. I start from my bedroom to my bathroom and then the kitchen and living room. If you find me cleaning, chances are that it would be best to leave me alone for some time.

2. I flip the SHIT when people poke me in my side. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

3. Baking is my comfort activity. Banana bread, brownies, and all sorts of cookies… you name it. Cooking, however, usually stresses me out. Try to be near me when I’m cooking and you will probably be kicked out within five minutes.

4. I used to do a lot of web design for my personal domain, back in the day. Being the middle-school teenager that I was, I’d come up with all of these seemingly “cool” names like paper-cut.net, devour.nu, and phrunk.org….  yup, phrunk.

5. Speaking of the old days, I played pretty much every sport there was in school at some point in my life… soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, even rugby. Of course, that isn’t to say that I was good at any of them…. (Do you see me doing sports now? Ha, go figure.)

6. I think random acts of kindness have high intrinsic value and should not be written off so easily by all the cynics out there.

7. I might have an incurable addiction to scarves, as they now number more than twenty. Feel free to stop by and help me purge some of that pile.

8. What I *do* deliberately collect are postcards. They don’t have to be touristic, nor do they have to be for correspondence purposes only. Any card with a cool design I will take.

9. The plan is to live in Colombia…within the next five years.

10.  I think human emotions are one of the most beautiful things in the world. The complexity and unpredictability of it all escapes even the most brilliant minds.

11. Equally beautiful are passing moments: pausing to touch frozen tree branches locked in ice; catching drifts of the warm scent of autumn; finding that one spot where the sun happens to be setting behind a distant tree, creating a striking silhouette; being in the company of wonderful friends and removing yourself momentarily to simply appreciate it…. Sometimes these moments happen without reason, without any sort of prompt. and yet they seem to all be interconnected by what is collectively the beauty of this world, even extending to scenes of misery, of starvation, of war.

12. On a similar note, I find fascinating the rate of change in the human experience. External changes in your environment, internal changes in your character, everything. The potential for something fantastic — and that could be fantastically great or fantastically tragic — to happen in the next 24 hours is incredible.

13. I dream of having a cozy, well-furnished apartment/house one day with high ceilings, roomy balconies, a well-stocked kitchen and all sorts of cultural souvenirs collected from my travels laid about the room. Earth tones, rustic patterns and prints, my photography framed, doodles, embroidered cushion, fleece throws, old leather, a rocking chair, dim, yellow lighting….

14. I give massages if I’m in a good mood. I think that used to be a well-kept secret.. a long, longg time ago.

15. I love finding secret hideout spots around grounds for studying, daydreaming, whatever introspective activity that I happen to be doing at the time. The anthropology library, for example, is a pretty well-kept secret.

16. I have a quena and am trying desperately to master it. If you know how to play it or have some songs, send yourself over. If not, come over anyway and I can share some andean music with you.

17. I may not be completely Argentine yet, but mate seems to have taken over a little part of my life. I wonder if it’s because of the intrinsic value of taking (drinking) mate or if it’s only because of its symbolic cultural value. In any case, I’m still waiting for that day when some stranger will approach me and share a round or two with me..

18. Unfortunately I’m too sleepy to write the rest. Perhaps I’ll come back and finish this later. I would, however, love to read some of yours!

*** UPDATE ***

19. I find that the concept of wanderlust adequately sums up a large part of my life. The overwhelming urge to travel and wander about distant lands on one side, balanced against the yearning to return to nostalgic pasts on the other. I miss so many places and yet there are so many more to see…

20. I’m learning French at the moment, but I’m not entirely sure why. Is it because of its practicality? Hmm. All I know is that I continue to butcher it on a daily basis, and that  certainly I have more fun learning portuguese on my own that learning French in that damned class.

21. I miss my family. And yet whenever I think about them, I’m overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy and regret.

22. I realize these days that friendships are difficult. Relationships in general are difficult. I can’t promise you that we’ll keep in touch forever, that these beautiful connections won’t dissipate over the years, but at the very least, we all know that we’ve shared some wonderful moments together. That’s all that matters, isn’t it?

Somehow I feel like I’m just making up excuses.

23. They’re not kidding when they say that music is food for the soul. Depending on the genre, the mood, the circumstances.. music can completely transform the experience. It elevates you to a completely different level. Jazz, trance, hip hop, classical, folk, reggae, whatever it is. I love it all and cannot imagine life without it.

24. I lost my harddrive - the one that contained all of my music and all of my photo originals since high school. Somehow, I don’t miss it as much as I thought I would. It would have been nice to be able to make prints and frame them, or to be able to submit them to publications, but ultimately it’s just art. If you were able to create it once, you should be able to recreate it again, in as many similar and different ways possible. As for the memories…. all I can say is: Thank you, Facebook.

25. I had fun writing up these 25 items. One of the most difficult things in life, i think, is to reconcile your self-perception with how others perceive you. At least that’s been the case in my experience. I hope you felt something reading these words, these largely pointless thoughts… now it’s your turn!

  • Dario dice (21: 01):
  • so, I put it online my inner thoughts *pensamientos
  • mish dice (21: 02):
  • well, they say the only normal people are those you don't know well
  • so the usual (upon first contact) may not be all that usual afterall..
  • does that make sense to you?
  • Dario dice (21: 03):

  • mish dice (21: 04):
  • basically it means that no one is normal, not when you get to know them on a deeper level

  • Dario dice (21: 09):
  • ask you what are you doing here, in my country, right here, right now!
  • mish dice (21: 09):
  • well in the US it is quite different. Their opposition to mediocrity is what explains the necessary independence at age 18, the drive to finish school as soon as possible, etc.
  • mish dice (21: 10):
  • some would argue they are less happier as a result.
  • less happy*
  • mish dice (21: 11):

  • mish dice (21: 11):
  • most definitely
  • Dario dice (21: 11):
  • well, that response is music for my ears!
  • I am 100 percent optimist
  • mish dice (21: 12):
  • hahahah
  • perhaps that is why i like reading your thoughts.
  • it's rare to find an optimist who is able to be delicate at the same time
  • sensitive to the details..
  • Dario dice (21: 13):
  • well, I like your praise -elogio- .
  • Michelle, if I write that
  • Dario dice (21: 14):
  • most of my time, my hours try to live
  • translation literal because I don't like the way that I translate
  • in spanish
  • Dario dice (21: 15):
  • La mayor parte de mi tiempo trato de pasarla viviendo
  • Dario dice (21: 16):
  • Most of my time I try just living
  • mish dice (21: 17):
  • right, i understand
  • it's hard. living in the moment
  • i keep thinking about other times and other places
  • but i guess dealing with that is also part of 'living
  • Dario dice (21: 18):
  • I thought is against of those people that
  • Dario dice (21: 19):
  • most of the time just don't try to living, ie, speaking about disease, death, drugs, bad manners, non positive facts... et alter
  • Dario dice (21: 21):
  • most of my time, I think fears are just... not useful
  • mish dice (21: 21):
  • it depends on how you speak of it
  • with fear, i completely agree -- it is not useful at all
  • well, i can answer part of your qustion now
  • i study politics and global health
  • Dario dice (21: 22):
  • here in Argentina did you do a fieldwork?
  • mish dice (21: 22):
  • your intuition is crazy
